Coasters

IMG_7015

Set of four coasters made of fabric from the Park Slope collection mixed with dots and gingham. Making coasters is great! If you haven't done it before, you must try it. It's also a great way to use fabric from stash and then there is space for new fabrics. Use linen, cotton or what ever you want and make your own personal coasters.

This set is a gift for a dear friend of mine - hope she likes my gift!

Contemporary Quilts

I sometimes find it difficult to find quilting books which appeal to my style of quilts, so I was quite delighted, when I looked in my new book Make your own contemporary quilts. Different quilt artists have designed twenty projects shown in the book. It's not a how-to-do-a-quilt book if that's what you want. I'm not sure, if I will ever make one of the quilts, but the projects are lovely and give me lots of inspiraiton. That's all I want. See for yourself

Machiko's Gift designed by Hiroko Aono-Billson. The quilt is made of kimono fabrics and the colours are gorgeous! Wish I had a collection of kimonos.

Desert dreaming designed by Diane Groenewegen. Inspired by the exquisite effects of the light at dawn, noon and dusk in the desert of western Australia.

Oxfam flowers designed by Karen Spurgin. This quilt is made of vintage embroidery from the designers grandmother. I think it is fantastic to preserve the embroied flowers in a quilt. Love it!

Three very different quilts. All beautiful in their own way. It's a very inspiring book.

I would love to make a quilt with Libery print. Does anyone know a place to buy Liberty scrabs...?! Perhaps someone want't to make a swap...?!

Checkered House Purse

Img_6545

A Japanese inspired house purse (approx. 15 x 15 cm) for keys, money or whatever you prefer. This project has been on the to-do-list since I got this book. Today was the day.

Sometimes I ask myself why a 48 years old women loves making pouches with hedgehogs, appliqued strawberries..... It's not because I expect people to buy them. I just have so much fun making them! It's not possible not to make them. That's reason enough for me.

The purse is for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Time for a break.....

Img_6520Today is my monthly Friday off from work. I started the day planning a new project.

Then it was time to pick up the right fabric, do some cutting and finally sew. Now it's afternoon and the top of the quilt is ready. Img_6531It's time for a break now. I'm getting insane! We have been re-building our house for months now, which means that I have to sew in the kitchen and all my crafting stuff are every where! In the living room, the kitchen and the bedroom. I can find anything and I feel, that I'm sewing in the middle of an airport.

Three sweet girls are sitting in the kitchen now waiting for me to join them. We are going to eat cake! I will try to tidy up a little and hang out with them. It's not their fault, that I'm getting insane.....

Swell Quilt

Img_6472 My Swell Quilt (approx. 70 x 70 cm) is finished. I was pretty nervous while the quilt was in the washing machine! Only the white fabric was pre-washed.

No cotton batting on stash and I couldn't wait to get some. Instead I have used polyester batting. I think it is time to order cotton batting here.

The quilt has got just the fluffy texture, I wanted. You can see more quilting details in my flickr album. Who the quilt is for...?! I don't know, but I think it will be fine for a cute baby girl.

Swell

Img_6467

The Swell quilt is almost finished. The only thing left is to handsew the binding and a quick wash. I don't want this project to end. It's been a pleasure. Perhaps it's time to plan a new quilting project. Perhaps - time will show.

I know that I'm not the only one, who likes the Swell collection. How about starting a flickr group where we can all show our Swell projects....?!

I have ordered these - I must try them!

Free motion quilting

Img_6460

So much fun! I was not able to find the bed last night. Artista and I had a fantastic evening! I have not made a free motion quilt since I made this bag years ago.

Free motion quilting is therapy. It can be a bit noisy too! I was so thrilled, that I talked to myself several times (loud)....

Take a look here if you would like to try free motion quilting. It's important to use the right foot for your sewing machine. You can se more free motion quilts here and here.

Now the big question is - do I need a par of these.....?! Can anyone tell me, please. Well, back to the quilt. Soon the only thing missing is the binding.

I'm still here

Img_6456

A couple of new patchwork books and a FQ of this beautiful fabric made my two days at work easier.... I think it was pretty hard getting back to work after 12 days off! No creativity for days now. I want to begin a new knit project but I can't find the right one. I need inspiration.

Img_6454

Today I'm working on this WIP. Not much has happened since my last picture. After a cafe-latte and a piece of homebaked banana cake I'm ready to continue!

I want to thank you for you sweet and kind comments about this quilt. My mother-in-law was overwhelmed, when I told her. It was so great telling her!

Matryoshka mini Quilt

Img_6443

Just a small one - approx 10" x 11" (ca. 25 x 28 cm). Because it's a small quilt, I have only quilted round the doll, the green circles and the paisley fabric.

The quilt will be for sale in my Etsy shop later today.
